BIO

Abby Gundersen is a Seattle-based composer and instrumentalist who creates sparse, neo-classical music and has worked as an accompnist on a wide array of projects across genre, including Death Cab for Cutie, SYML, Noah Gundersen, and more.

Abby’s solo work often evokes nature and human dialogue, with various instruments representing the interplay between voices and the environmental forces around them. She originally began making music at a young age in partnership with her brother, singer-songwriter Noah Gundersen, complementing his folk-inspired guitar and vocal work with restrained violin and vocal harmonies. She was soon sought out as a regular collaborator by a number of other artists and producers.

In 2014, during a period of relative calm from recording and touring, Abby gathered ideas and themes that demanded their own sonic space, and generated her first solo work, an EP titled Time Moves Quickly. In the years following, she experimented by surrounding her classically inspired instrumentation with ambient electronic sounds in her first full-length, Aurora (2016), explored seasons in the sparse, wintry single Light in Between (2017), and returned to a full-length exploration of piano and strings in Sleep Comes Then I Wake (2020). Most recently, she released an EP of self-recorded piano works entitled Out Walking (2022).
